Namecheap Private Email vs cPanel Email comes down to whether you want mail bundled with your website account or a separate email subscription. Both can handle everyday business messages. The more useful comparison is your mailbox count, storage, calendar needs and what happens when your website changes hosts.

Choose the email workflow first
Bundled email or a separate mailbox service?
Start with cPanel Email when you already need compatible Shared Hosting and only require standard mailboxes. Consider Private Email when its calendar, synchronization and separate subscription fit your daily work.

Namecheap Private Email vs cPanel Email at a glance
Namecheap’s official comparison describes cPanel Email as the mail service included with Shared Hosting. Private Email is a separate product with additional productivity tools. Paying separately is worthwhile only when those differences solve a problem for you.
| Decision | cPanel Email on Namecheap Shared Hosting | Namecheap Private Email |
|---|---|---|
| Purchase structure | Bundled with the hosting subscription. | Separate email subscription for your domain. |
| Everyday access | Webmail and compatible mail apps using IMAP, POP3 and SMTP. | Webmail and compatible mail apps using IMAP, POP3 and SMTP. |
| Included addresses | Stellar lists 30 mailboxes; Plus and Business advertise unlimited mailbox counts within usage rules. | Launch includes 1, Expand 3 and Scale 5 mailboxes. |
| Productivity tools | A conventional hosting-email workflow. | The current platform includes calendar tools, CalDAV/CardDAV and an AI email assistant. |
| Website move | If email is on the hosting account being cancelled, it needs a continuity plan. | The website can be moved separately while you retain the email subscription and correct DNS. |
| Main cost question | Do you already need the hosting plan, and do its limits fit? | Which mailbox/storage tier and renewal total fit your users? |
The Shared Hosting plan comparison confirms the cPanel mailbox counts. If you are choosing a website product too, read Shared Hosting vs EasyWP; an EasyWP subscription should not be treated as a cPanel email account.
Private Email plans: compare the renewal commitment
At this review, the Private Email product page shows the following annual renewal benchmarks. Introductory offers may change the first payment. Keep the initial charge, next renewal and extra mailboxes as separate lines in your budget.
| Current plan | Included mailboxes | Included email storage across those mailboxes | Published annual renewal |
|---|---|---|---|
| Launch | 1 | 5 GB | $14.88 |
| Expand | 3 | 30 GB | $41.88 |
| Scale | 5 | 75 GB | $71.88 |
These are published renewal benchmarks checked November 3, 2026, not a guaranteed introductory quote. Confirm the selected term, taxes, extras and renewal in checkout.
Namecheap’s plan comparison lists default per-mailbox quotas of 5 GB, 10 GB and 15 GB respectively. The larger totals above represent the default included mailbox set; do not assume one mailbox automatically gets the whole plan’s combined storage.
That same reference lists additional mailboxes at $8.88/year for Launch, $25.88/year for Expand and $39.88/year for Scale. Check the current add-on price before multiplying it by your headcount.
Using those published benchmarks, Launch plus one additional mailbox is $14.88 + $8.88 = $23.76/year before taxes. Expand is $41.88/year for three default mailboxes with a larger default quota each. This arithmetic example excludes promotions and does not make the two configurations equivalent.
Already paying for Shared Hosting? The marginal cost of using an included cPanel mailbox may be zero within your plan’s allowances. But buying an entire hosting subscription purely for one address can be a different value calculation. Compare the full recurring bill, not the word “included.”
Private Email’s product-page terms say its 30-day trial converts to an annual subscription, with eligibility restrictions. Trial renewal is not the same as buying a discounted annual plan directly. Review the next charge and cancellation controls before starting a trial.
Mailbox count is not storage or sending capacity
“Unlimited mailboxes” does not mean unlimited stored mail or unrestricted sending. Namecheap’s Shared Hosting acceptable-use policy caps email storage at 10 GB per Shared Hosting or individual reseller cPanel account. That is an account-level email-storage restriction, not a promise of 10 GB for every address.
Its hosting sending-limit guide lists 50 emails per hour per domain for Stellar and 200 for Stellar Plus. Other plans have their own allowances. Check the rule for the exact package rather than borrowing a number from another tier.
For current Private Email plans, the dedicated usage-limit page lists 500 emails per hour per mailbox on paid Launch, Expand and Scale, versus 20 per hour per mailbox during a trial. A message is limited to 50 recipients across To, CC and BCC.
Those units matter: per domain and per mailbox are different limits. They are also ceilings, not a reason to design a campaign around the maximum. Namecheap’s Private Email terms allow restrictions or queuing for abuse concerns and set other traffic limits. A paid mailbox does not guarantee inbox placement.

Which option fits your business?
Keep cPanel Email for a simple existing hosting setup
Consider the included service if you already run your site on Namecheap Shared Hosting, need ordinary send/receive mail and have enough storage and sending capacity. This can keep billing and account management simple.
Make a list of actual needs first: separate inboxes, forwarding addresses, phone access and expected message storage. An unused premium feature does not improve the value of your subscription.
Choose Private Email for a separate email workflow
Shortlist Private Email if you want email billing separate from web hosting, its current calendar and synchronization tools suit your users, or its documented quotas better match your usage. Test your preferred mail app during an eligible trial before moving important conversations.
Keeping the email subscription separate can simplify a later website move, provided you preserve DNS and continue paying for email. This is an operational benefit, not a promise that the two services can never share a provider-level incident.
Check your existing plan generation before comparing screenshots
Namecheap says new Private Email subscriptions began using an updated platform on June 2, 2026. Its platform-change guide explains that older subscriptions can have a different interface and feature set during the transition. Do not apply a Starter, Pro or Ultimate screenshot to Launch, Expand or Scale without checking the subscription.
The updated platform includes features such as application passwords and a built-in calendar, while some older document-editing tools are not part of the new experience. Review the features you actually depend on before changing plans.

Switch email deliberately: DNS is only one part
Changing mail routing does not copy old messages. Before switching, decide where historical email, contacts and calendars will live, and confirm the method for moving or retaining them. Keep access to the old service until the result is verified.
- Inventory your users and addresses. Distinguish a person who needs a separate login from an address that only forwards to an existing inbox.
- Create the destination mailboxes. Check quota and app access before the live routing change.
- Plan historical-data handling. Record what will be migrated, retained or exported and who verifies it.
- Configure the authoritative DNS zone. Use the required mail records for your chosen provider and review SPF, DKIM and DMARC.
- Review local versus remote routing. A website server should not incorrectly treat externally hosted mail as local.
- Test the entire path. Verify external inbound mail, outbound replies, mail-app access and website form notifications before retiring the old service.
Namecheap’s cPanel routing guide says Remote Mail Exchanger is the relevant mode when another service handles the domain’s mail. It also explains that automatic detection uses cPanel’s configured zone rather than automatically tracking every external DNS change. Match the routing choice to your actual architecture.
Moving the website as well? Use our Namecheap hosting migration guide and free WordPress checklist to plan the combined cutover. A website copy and a mailbox transfer should have separate verification steps.
Frequently asked questions
Is cPanel Email free?
It is included with eligible Namecheap Shared Hosting rather than a standalone free service. You still pay for hosting, and mailbox storage and sending rules apply.
Can I use Private Email while keeping my website on Shared Hosting?
Yes. The website can stay on Shared Hosting while mail is directed to Private Email. Configure the required DNS records and the appropriate email routing; do not assume creating both sets of mailboxes makes both receive normally for the same domain.
Does Private Email guarantee my messages reach the inbox?
No. Authentication, message content, sending behavior and recipient filtering still matter. This article has not measured delivery speed or inbox-placement rates.
Should one person buy Expand instead of Launch?
Only if the additional included mailboxes, quotas or other plan-specific benefits fit that person’s needs. Compare the actual configuration and renewal total rather than upgrading because a tier is marked popular.
Will my old messages appear after I change MX records?
No. Routing new incoming mail and transferring existing mailbox data are separate tasks. Agree how to move or retain historical messages before cancelling the old service.
